Running away to join the circus!

Hey!

Ever feel like packing your bags, escaping reality and joining the circus?

That's exactly how we felt last week! So we packed-in the hussle and bussle of Bangkok for the long, I mean Longggggg (16 hour) trip to Pai, Northern Thailand.

Having been to Pai before, I already knew about the small town, the mountainous setting, the abundance of delicious street food (including falafel and roasted vegetable lasagna!!!), the home-cooked family ran restaurants, cheap bars and endless day trips to caves, grand canyons, hot springs and waterfalls - its no wonder this is backpacker paradise!

Back in March all we heard was 'I'm staying at the Circus' everywhere we went. Planning to return to Pai in July found my friend Sach hearing about the Circus and booking us in!

Arriving at Pai Circus School, we were greeted by this amazing view, our rooms were ready and had been expecting us by name - which was a nice touch compared to most check-in's in Thailand!

We were quickly taken to our rooms, individual bamboo bungalows (with a shared bathroom), which was appropriately named "hippie village"

£7 a night, don't mind if I do!

An absolutely blissful nights sleep in the natural darkness, woken by the sunlight through the bamboo - the only way a 'weekend hippie' like me wants to start the day!

There's a friendly & free vibe in the common areas - even though I came in my we're-not-teachers-at-the-weekend gang, everyone was seen as an individual and is welcome everywhere - there's no "you can't sit with us" drama queens here!

And Sach loving the Mojio life!

There are people swimming, singing, drinking, playing cards and chilling all around, with a backdrop like this, its hard not to:

A pool, restaurant and bar, you have no reason to leave!

"Pai Circus School" isn't just a name, they have trained circus professionals ready to give you lessons! We took a Poi class (although with my co-ordination, it was more like a pain-class!).

Finishing the day off with different events each night, we enjoyed open-mic night.... from a far, as these vocal chords shouldn't be anywhere near a microphone, especially when there's beer around!

Turns out running away to join the circus really is a good idea! We even found the beginnings of our hidden Poi-talents - who knew?! Shame reality came knocking at the crack of dawn, we returned though, with bright eyes and bushy tails!

Little did I realise my reality is explaining to year 6 that 'beginning' and 'bikini' are not the same thing, or both types of ladies underwear! (as much as they insist I am wrong!).

Catch you in August!

Zoe

xoxo
